Nikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S Nikkor
7 out of 10 points and recommendedGreat Centre sharpness, colour and contrast at maximum aperture in low light. Small lens.Overall sharpness only at smaller aperturesMy experience is the same as the reviewer. I was hoping to use this lens for landscapes as well, but it requires a lot of stopping down.

Fine in low light, though - bit of a marvel there. -
Nikon 60mm f/2.8D AF Micro Nikkor
9 out of 10 points and recommendedVery, very sharp at all apertures.Method of changing from autofocus to manual focus. This is the sharpest lens I have. It is excellent everywhere with only slightly softer corners at f2.8.

It is excellent at infinity and brilliant at macro.
Solid, it is a bit old fashioned in operation, but is very usable and a favourite of mine. -
Nikon 24mm f/2.8 AIS Nikkor
8 out of 10 points and recommendedVery good from f5.6. Very solid, but still compact. Excellent colour rendition.A bit soft in the corners at f2.8This is my one AIS lens. I like autofocus, but the wide angle helps here.

From f5.6 on, image quality is delightful.
Compact but weighty, this will likely outlast all my other lenses. -
Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor
7 out of 10 points and recommendedSharp from f4. Small and light. Infinity stop.Soft and hazy wide open. This is a design from the film days. The newer standard lenses are better wide open.

However, on a flight over Antarctica, at f8 and manually focused to infinity, the quality of the images was beyond criticism.
I have the 50 f1.8 AF-S, but still use this lens where it is stronger.
